PRACTITIONER PROFILES
Donald
L. Kaminsky, M.D. is a board certified, private practitioner
who specializes in the practice of Infectious Diseases. He is
Board Certified in Internal Medicine and a Diplomate of the Board
of Medical Examiners. He is a specialist in Infectious Diseases
and is nationally recognized as an expert in the treatments of
immunodeficiency and HIV disease. As an Attending Physician in
Medicine and Infectious Diseases at Beth Israel Medical Center
in Manhattan, Dr. Kaminsky continues to be an integral part of
the Infectious Diseases and AIDS Divisions at the Medical Center.
Dr. Kaminsky received his undergraduate degree from the University
of Vermont and his Doctor of Medicine degree was received from
George Washington University Medical School in Washington, D.C..
His medical internship, residency and fellowship in Infectious
Diseases were all done at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York.
He is a Clinical Instructor at the Albert Einstein College of
Medicine and at the Beth Israel Medical Center, where he was cited
as the Clinical Teacher of the Year in 1995.
Currently, Dr. Kaminsky is a member of: The American College
of Physicians, The American Society for Microbiology, the Infectious
Disease Society of America, International AIDS Society, Association
of Physicians in AIDS Medicine, New York AIDS Coalition, New York
Society of Infectious Diseases, International Society of Travel
Medicine, and the New York Society of Tropical Medicine. In addition,
he served as a working member of the AIDS Planning Committee at
Beth Israel Medical Center, and as the Co-Administrator for the
Alan Schnurmacher Fund. He was a Member of the Medical Board at
Beth Israel from 1980 through 1990, and has currently been reappointed
to the board.
Dr. Kaminsky has published in the Annals of Internal Medicine
and The American Journal of Gastroenterology, as well as in Newsweek.
He has appeared on ABC and the FOX Health Network. In 1983, he
presented a program and abstract at the twenty-third Interscience
Conference on Anti-microbial Agents and Chemotherapy on the CNS
manifestation of AIDS. He has also contributed to numerous websites
on topics relating to AIDS and infectious diseases.
While in private practice, Dr. Kaminsky has been active in numerous
drug studies dealing with HIV and immunodeficency. These studies
include: Retovir (AZT), r-Hu EPO treatment protocol No. 188-083,
Epivir (3TC) GR109714X (Lamivudine), Crixivan (MK - 639, Indinavir
Sulfate) Advanced AIDS program, Viracept (nelfinavir mesylate),
Preveon (adefovir dipivoxil), Abacivir (1592U89), Zerit (D4T),
and Interferon and Sustiva.
